Under the Influence

A couple of years back, my mother gave me a CD with some old family pictures and genealogy documents. Somehow that CD got misplaced, so she sent a new one this past week.

Last night, as Abbey and I sat on the couch going through all things Zylstra and Haan, I came across these two photos which were back to back.

I found the juxtaposition of these two photos ironic, and they made me wonder how much my maternal Grandfather may have influenced me even though he died when I was 16, before I got a chance to really know him as an adult.

I wondered if the penchant for fishing and gardening was passed down through the Zylstra gene pool.

It’s a nice thought, and warms the heart. But the truth of the matter is that guys often just like to fish and garden.

Yet it’s still good to know that we have a few things in common.
